Bringing practical aquaculture knowledge closer to freshwater prawn farmers

FISHBYTE LTD, yesterday organized a farmer knowledge-sharing session in Fultola Upazila, Khulna, bringing local freshwater prawn farmers together with experienced aquaculture professionals to discuss practical challenges and opportunities in prawn farming.

The session was attended by Mr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer, Fultola, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Taslim Mahmood, Aquaculture Consultant and Project Director of Oasis Hatchery, joined as the Special Guest. The session provided farmers with an opportunity to directly discuss their farming experiences, challenges, and technical concerns with the experts.

The open discussion and question-and-answer session reflected the strong interest of local farmers in improving their farming practices. The discussions emphasized that with access to quality inputs, appropriate technical guidance, and scientifically sound farming practices, smallholder farmers can significantly improve the productivity and sustainability of freshwater prawn farming.

The Fultola Upazila session is part of FISHBYTE’s broader farmer engagement initiative. The company plans to organize similar knowledge-sharing and consultation sessions across freshwater prawn-producing upazilas in Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Jashore, Gopalganj and Narail districts.

Following the Eid holidays, FISHBYTE plans to continue this program across farming communities, creating more opportunities for farmers to connect directly with technical experts and gain practical knowledge relevant to their farms.
